About Us

Kristin is a Southern Georgia belle, who graduated from UGA as a veterinarian May 2010. Carter grew up in NC, went on to seminary, became an ordained pastor, and has completed his doctorate of ministry. After retiring from full-time ministry, Carter is thoroughly enjoying being a financial advisor (and volunteering on the ministry side of things). After about a month of emailing, asking questions, and going through the steps of eharmony.com, we were full of excitement and became very eager to meet one another face to face. October 25, 2009, we met and enjoyed every minute together. We had no doubt God was going to strengthen our relationship with Him as well as with one another. Carter proposed August 9, 2010 on the boat in the middle of Lake Wylie at sunset. Kristin said "Yes" after some happy tears. We got married April 2, 2011 and what an amazing beautiful day that was! God has continued to bless us throughout our marriage. On May 18, 2017, our family grew when God gave us our son, Micah. We look forward to see what He has in store for us each and every day. We are super blessed to be serving the Lord wherever we are. God is constantly surprising us with new callings!

Not So Little Any More

My first meeting of my miracle and finding out I'd been carrying a SON!

Micah (6 months old) and "his pup pup"

 Micah (1 year old)

I was reflecting on Micah’s growth recently from our miracle being in my womb to him turning two this past May.  Thankfully, he has grown into a healthy little boy with his weight and height.  He went from momma’s milk to solids to whole milk and big boy meals to 2% milk.

Micah’s gone from loving his baths to wanting to swim and do fun water activities like mommy and daddy. “Micah ski!” (Maybe next summer ; )) His big growth moments this summer have been talking in phrases now and surprising us with new vocabulary when we least expect it. He’s wanting to do so much more on his own now. He’s excited and not at all scared to do new things. Besides wanting to swim on his own so badly, he loved his new hiking adventures in the mountains. “Hike. Hike. Water (meaning waterfalls).”

Seeing him talk to Joy and tell her stories melts my heart; they are best friends. “Pup Pup, come here. Play outside.” He loves to copy anything we do and enjoys helping. “Me. Help.” Everywhere we turn, we can’t help but see how Micah is growing and changing as he matures.

Not only has our little guy grown physically, activity wise, and with his vocabulary, he’s also learned more emotions and how to respond to situations or what we are saying. Sometimes that response is super mature, and others is definitely a two year old pout or fit.

 How is he already 2????

We constantly have prayed for Micah to be healthy, kind, and to love Jesus.  It’s precious to see him now bow his head, close his eyes, and copy Mommy and Daddy’s words the best that he can while praying before meals or at bedtime. Or for him to pull out his bible to read at bed time. Or to say “Church, Church, Church” on Sunday mornings when we head out the door for church.

With all of that being said, I can’t help but ask myself, “How am I growing? How am I growing as a Christian, with my relationship with the Lord? What about as a wife and mother? Or as a mentor or friend? Professionally?...

What about you?

I am a huge believer on growing daily in some way or another. How can we grow to be that better person tomorrow than we were today if we are given the opportunity?

Someone was super excited about going to school this year!

Just Going Through The Motions

Do you ever find yourself “just going through the motions?” In life? Your marriage? Your job? Parenthood?

Why is that? Too busy? Staying nonstop? Tired? Compassion pushed aside? Priorities shifted? Just trying to keep your head afloat? Obstacles in your path? I don’t know about you, but my answers vary depending on what phase I’m going through, or it could depend on the day or my mood or mindset.

Almost each and every time our marriage is at a low, we are overdue for a date together, just Carter and me. We all know marriages are not perfect, and they take work.  They require both wife and husband doing and covering the variety of responsibilities that need to be taken care of so not just one gets burnt out. It can’t be one sided. Communication is always a biggie too that helps us so that feelings can be shared, and we can be on the same page, etc. It’s awesome to see how simple things such as “Please” and “Thank you” make a huge difference.  Not to mention making one another feel appreciated is super important as well.  When your marriage is lacking, what do you do to reignite it?

Probably the area I find myself most present and truly in the moment lately has been during this summer. I had the opportunity to work part time and jumped on it so I can be more in momma mode. Micah and I have both cherished this journey these few months. We have also been able to travel some as a family.  Pushing work aside some instead of being in workaholic mode has paid off drastically in a gazillion ways for my little guy and me.

Those who know me best know that being a mommy was my biggest desire and hope for years...A miracle that I thank God for every day! Don’t get me wrong, mommy hood has it’s low moments and “just going through the motions” times, too. You know exactly what I’m talking about...when the list of things that need to get done is super long, but my awesome toddler is clingy and wants to be held. I’m trying to shift to the “enjoy holding him” moment, and the list can wait or something can be done in 10 minutes instead of right now.  When I have this shift in mindset, I seem to also shift from "just going through the motions” to being present. What another amazing change!  What do you do to get back in that cherished mommy mode when needed?

I could give a ton of other examples of just going through the motions...but what about you? Where do you struggle in this arena?  Where are you excelling?

What about strengthening your relationship with God? Do you get excited about reading His word, or has it just become another habit or “going through the motions” moment? What about going to church? This could be a whole other blog entry in and of itself.  In short though, (and many of you are going to be shocked because you know how much I love the Lord and His word), but this has been a huge struggle for me over the last year and a half or so. Basically, it’s been because I have been upset, hurt, confused still, and have pushed a little more away from Him than towards God.  I am happy to say this has shifted back in the right direction in the last couple months.  We have a church home again! We are in a small group with others around our same phase of life and surrounded by love, encouragement, and accountability again.  God meant for us to do life together as a community, not alone or in hibernation. Have you had any God see-saw moments or God winks lately? How have you handled them? (Matthew West's song, "The Motions" comes to mind here: The Motions Song)

Oh how l love each and every one of you! Thanks for always being so excited about what my heart has to share! Big hug!

Exactly What This Momma Needed

First off, so many of you have asked if everything has been okay because of the lack of blog posts lately. Thanks to all of you who kept checking in and continue to lift prayers. In short, it’s been a couple years of reflecting, healing, learning, changing, forgiving, loving, adjusting, growing, discerning,…  Ya’ll know how much the devil loves to whisper throughout all of this to attempt to throw us off.  For today, writer’s block has been pushed aside, and I’m going to enjoy sharing a little while Micah is napping. (Hip hip hooray!)

Exactly What This Momma Needed
Tired. Just “off.” Mind wandering. Asking questions. Hormones. Weird dreams. Still loving and trying to figure out this awesome journey of His gift He gave me of being a mother. Confused. Tears. Smiles.

Let’s just say I woke up exhausted instead of well-rested.  Or maybe some would say I woke up on the “wrong side of the bed.” (I know that’s never happened to any of you before; this was a first for me. ; ))

I have many happy places so to speak, but these past few days, I’ve been enjoying one of them…the lake!  The peace. The calm waters. Water skiing. Micah and his part fish self and his love for the water, too. Busyness.  Tubing and swimming with my little guy. Again…what a mixture!

One of our favorite things is to go riding on the boat.  Sometimes fast; sometimes slow.  This morning, my little munchkin wanted to ride on his mommy’s lap, head on my chest, all snuggled up for at least 20 minutes.  Boy, did this momma cherish every second!  (This hasn’t happened in probably a year in a half...and he did it TWICE today, once this morning and another time this evening.). I couldn’t help but think “does he feel ok?” at first.

Micah is perfectly fine. He’s been his jovial, non-stop, fun self.  I think he was feeling exactly what I was…he needed me, and I needed him.  I just smiled and held him tight as we went “bump, bump, bump” over the waves.

Not only did my little Boogaboo help keep me going today, but this moment (like so many others) brought me right back to God.  God is always with me (and you).  He has us in the palm of His hand. He wraps us in His loving arms. He wants that relationship and time with us. He answers prayers and questions in His timing. Isn’t it awesome to be able to lean on His promises ALL OF THE TIME...during the good, awesome, weird, and challenging times?

Joshua 1:9, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

P.S.S. Micah says hi.

God Size Dream Becoming A Reality

Greetings, Friends!

Kristin and I are so excited about what God has been doing!  We have been praying for some time about what God is calling us to do and what ministry we should be a part of.  Over the last 8 months, through prayer for discernment, it has become clear that we are called to start our own ministry.  After prayer and consideration, we feel confident God wants us to pursue “Glorify and Excel.”

The Vision of Glorify and Excel:
To EMPOWER the next generation of Christian leaders to not only learn how to Glorify and Excel, not only be trained to Glorify and Excel, but to create their Biblical plan to Glorify God and Excel in their lives.

This is not just a teaching or telling ministry but a ministry that will help the next generation of Christian leaders to plan, write out, and create the life God is calling them to have.

We are excited about giving the Next Generation of Christian Adults the tools to be the next Generation of Christian Leaders in the 21st Century.

(Please contact Carter to learn more!)

Right now, we are asking for prayers!  Will you be willing to serve as our prayer partners?

The key things we are asking for prayer RIGHT NOW are:

1) A solid group of prayer warriors to be on our side!

2) That God makes the way clear for us to have our first two retreats in the first half of 2019.
- The Young Adults who are ready for this experience sign up and continue to be excited about this opportunity.
- The right timing and space to host the event.
- The Finances to make this financially able for all who want to go.

3) A board of directors ready to help us make this God-sized dream a reality.
- We are looking for a few more people who are excited about this vision.

4) The Financial Backing we need to get this ministry started.
- Build Website
- Make weekends possible at an affordable price.
- Spread the Word of the Ministry

Thank you, Friends and Prayer Warriors.  If you know someone who would be interested in being a part of and/or learning more about Glorify and Excel, please pass this email along and have them contact Carter.  We would love to share it with EVERYONE…

We love you!

A Simple Haircut

What a change! The last time I donated my hair was right before Micah was born. (March/April 2017) My hair grows so fast, esp when I was on prenatal vitamins! Well, this summer, my hair was already down to my rear so...it was time to donate yet again. During this process,  God pointed out to me a few things in a bizarre way (but who am I to say that; we all know that God has HIS ways)…how long it would take to wash my hair, dry my hair, straighten my hair, style my hair, etc while it was so long. (Super easy to just throw on top of my head though ;)) Once I chopped it off, hair washing was much shorter, drying my hair took a lot less time, and so on. Mind you, my new hair do was still down past my shoulders.

God took me back to when it used to take forever to pray, read His word, or hear His voice, kind of like how it would take a while to get ready with my super long hair.  With time and change in my relationship with Him, things got easier in a variety of ways. My excitement peaked when opening the Bible; I can tell when He is answering my prayers better now versus Satan trying to get in the way.

Gotta love when God speaks to us in a way we didn’t expect, like a haircut. In what ways has He spoken to you lately?
